when a photographer has a color image in their portfolio AND a grey scale version of the same image. It’s pointless and it a tell tale sign of a fauxtog.
It’s almost as annoying when people brag constantly about unedited images, especially when the image is crap. It’s like, photoshop is just a tool. Using it does not mean that you are any less of a photographer. But using it as a crutch to fix a terrible images made by a talentless photographer IS shameful. That is a case in which editing would not help. I just get really irritated by so many people in my area who think because they have a DSLR that they are automatically photographers and have the right to charge people. Like seriously, there are so many teenage girls who use photobucket as an image editor in my town that now suddenly have photography pages on facebook. I even had a girl ask me what WEBSITE to use to edit her photos. Yeah, website. I was like, photoshop or another similar image editing software. I just get annoyed at the people who don’t realize how much I love photography and how much work (and time and money) I put into it. Then they claim to be a professional simply because they produced some overexposed, spot-colored image of a girl dressed in mismatched clothes with random props on the railroad tracks using their $300 DSLR in auto mode with the kit lens.
It’s like this: photography is an art, and it is a language. When people do this, it’s comparable to someone writing a resume with poor spelling and bad grammar and expecting to get hired. It is unprofessional and gets you nowhere.
